Hey guys,
I have a question. I just bought an 84 Jimmy for cheap. The drive train is solid except for the fact that when put into 4 wheel drive high it will not stay engaged. The previous owner rigged a bungy cord setup to hold the shift lever in place. This seems to work pretty good, although it is a little ghetto in my book. I was just wondering what would cause this problem and what kind of solutions there may be. This is my first time posting, so if I let out some crucial info or have just made an ass of myself for not following etiquette please accept my apologies.

Body lift or transfer case lowered causing the shifter to hit sheetmetal or shifter needs adjusting.

Could also be a bad detent ball/spring in the t-case... Does it even have a body lift....or any kind of lift on it?

Your transfer case might need a rebuild, mine used to pop out of 4 high and I adjusted the linkage and it helped some but it still did it. When ever I get my K5 running again I am going to rebuild the t-case. There are some plastic pads on the shift fork and when they wear out it makes it hard to shift into 4wd.
