Well, you know, I'd love to say that the snow is awesome here in South Lake Tahoe this weekend, however it's almost t-shirt weather. There is snow on the ground though...

So when we arrived yesterday, we went over to Sawmill Pond. The park was closed, but there is still parking, and it looks like there haven't been many people there. There was a bit of snow & ice, since the area is shaded by the trees.

Last time I was in Tahoe when it was snowing, we were in my Wagoneer, with fake 4-hi. Worked awesome, and it was heavy, so it did pretty well on the roads. The Suburban is a completely different animal. More power, although at this altitude I see now that OD is useless. I left the hubs locked yesterday, and used 2-hi unless we wanted 4-hi... in certain areas it really helped. I'm sure with the chains installed this vehicle would be pretty awesome in the snow. The wide (comparatively) 35" BFG A/T's did pretty well, but still spun easily. The gov-bomb in my 10 bolt rear worked well, and I kind of wish I had one in the front for snow too. Not sure yet on that one.

I do have some photos, however the internets are slow at our hotel. We are staying another day & leaving tomorrow, but driving North to Squaw to maybe meet some friends. No skiing for us; my Wife is pregnant, and last time I snowboarded out here, I almost broke my pelvis! I don't need that pain again.

So anyone have like videos of their full sizes plowing ;) or perhaps snow wheeling? I found a guy with some 'burb on youtube with 46" tires & beadlocks making his own road. Cool stuff.

Weight is your friend

Load that sucker down. IMO, burbs are sweet for winter. The rear of the truck adds weight and keeps your stuff out of the snow. Chains make these fairly unstoppable even with open diffs.

Still going after all these winters:woot:

Chains

Chains are expensive for good quality in a 35" size, but will be worth it even if you use them only once IMHO

Nice! I like it!

I am loaded with chains... Amazon.com has a better deal than our local parts stores, and they fit well, if I decide I need them. We tried them out of course to make sure they fit, and figure out how to install them before we came up here. All the snow is melting right now though :( Next weekend looks like it will be snowing here, but I'll probably be installing my new front springs then.

Another day down. We will be heading home (Rohnert Park, CA) tomorrow.

Today was slow & easy. We stopped by Fallen Leaf Lake (you can't drive there right now) for a moment, and had some more fun in the snow. This thing sure can bash through some deep stuff! We drove up the West side of the lake, and stopped at Squaw Valley ski resort to meet a friend. Had some nice lunch at an Irish pub there, along with some Irish coffee ;)

We then headed North, along the North side of Tahoe towards Nevada. I've got a few photos but not many; Suburbans seem popular here! Found a Suburban plow truck, and saw a few more Subs on the way around the lake. Even passed one with the same paint scheme as ours!

Pic's will be coming.

Now, I have not been as relaxed as I should be, because we have developed an oil leak. No big deal for this trip right now, I carry a gallon of oil with me anyway just in case. The oil is leaking on the backside of the engine, possibly the intake, distributor, or maybe even a valve cover. I hope. I guess it could be the rear main seal, but I saw some drips on the outside of the torque converter cover plate looking device (I forget the name right now), so I'm really hoping it's not the rear main.

Oh you have to post some photos. I used to go to Fallen Leaf Lake every summer with my parents when I was a kid. I remember making friends with a yellow rubber snake (yes, a real live snake) that lived outside our cabin. We'd try to catch crayfish or whatever they were.

And everything else was just places we'd go. So yeah ... pics please! :D

Alright, I got some more photos uploaded!

Fallen Leaf Lake, at the gate :(

Ack! I married my first wife at Emerald Bay.

I should have tossed her in the water instead!

Cool!

Subs just plain rock!:pimp:

What's that thing in the background between the burbs? Looks like an interesting piece...

Looks like a lifted Ranchero to me.

Yep I'm sure of it. Probably a body swap or something.

I didn't take too close a look at it, but here's a better photo:

Looks like it's built a bit tough, whatever it is...

HA! That is frickin hallarius! :haha:

I loved my old burb in the snow. hardly had to put it in 4wd most times (highway driveing) Long wheelbase rigs track nice in the snow and ice, plus as mentioned above, the extra weight in the back. pickups on the other hand...

I use to see that Ranchero everytime we went to kings beach. It was parked down a side street behind the gas station just down from the light for the 267. Ah Tahoe, sure dont miss it. Spent 2 years driving truck from Reno to truckee, over 267 down to South Lake and then to Carson. Never did get a picture of my 89 Burb in tahoe, it went to South Lake once and it HATED going over the top of Kingsberry and the top of Mt Rose at 8900 ft.
