Used low range several hours climbing very rocky terrain. It seemed difficult to get into 4L. Sometimes it would jump forward when trying to get into gear. Tried in P,N & D, neither was any better than the other. It's an 89 with stock engine & tranny from what I can tell. Is this a common problem or an adjustment I can make or what?

Thanks,

Rick

It would lurch forward. Gears would kind of grind for a second then Blazer would leap forward. There was no smooth shift into 4L, had to use a bit of force to get it into gear. I don't know how to explain it any better. I hope this clarifies it for you.

I have the 89 setup (700/241) Best thing is to put the trans in neutral (for all set ups really) and shift the transfercase (4h and 4L). If it's tough to get into, let off the brake pedal and let the truck roll a little while applying pressure to the T-case shifter. Sometimes it just needs a little movement.

The grinding is a bad thing, don't do that lol. Also, you might need to adjust the linkage or check if it's binding.

Will do thanks guys. Oh one other question, on the cruise when going up hill should it try and compensate and speed itself up? My 95 k1500 does that, but not sure if this vacuum setup works the same?

Thanks,

never had mine working, then threw it all away, but from what I've read, it's not all that smart, no where near what the '95 would be

I guess I will just be happy it works at all then. Lol

Thanks again fellas.

On my '90 with the same trans and t-case it will only go into 4lo easily if the trans is in neutral. Also, when shifting into low range do not stop in neutral. Pull it briskly from 4hi into 4lo. If I stop in neutral it always grinds and shifts hard getting into any other gear. The other thing is that it's not uncommon for trucks to shift hard into low range simply because many have rarely ever been in this range. My DD 2500HD has a manual shift t-case and shifts hard into 4 low also, but rarely ever gets into low. My K5 shifts pretty smoothly into low range but almost every time it gets driven it goes into low range.
