did my camping/fishing run up at Fish Creek, NY....

2 lb smallmouth....

caught 4 that size the first 2 days... solid fish, about 15, 16"s and launching a few feet in the air every time.. pound for pound, one of the most fun fish...

apparently the small have had a big resurgence, prior decades it's always been about 15 to 1, large to smallmouth... we caught 10 or so smalls, and about 20 large mouth..

northern's were down a bit, I only got this one this yr..... 29"

but the largemouth where banging pretty good... couple smaller ones, but most where in the 15 to 18" range and 2 to 3 lb's... so good fishing on light tackle...

here's a few largemouth...

didn't bring our boat... canoe fished 4 days, 12 to 16 hr's... never again.... :haha:

not only are we bringing a boat back up next yr, we're gonna sell our badarse little 12' glass one and step up to a 16' alum jon boat, new motor, yada....

about a 1/2 dozen of my friends met up there for a memorial this yr.. a dear friend of ours taking his last ride down the creek..... RIP Joe.

Just played with a few smallmouth when I was in Alberta....don't fish much, but they are fun to reel in! Nice score!

thanks.. it's just so fun... it's really the only time I get to REALLY enjoy fishing.. away on vacay... we always talk about it every time we're coming home.. how ideal of a life it would be if you could just do what we did every day retired.. perfect little fishing boat, dozen's of lakes, creeks, etc to explore...

I'd LUV to have the K5 tow the new boat up there next yr... it wont happen in Mutt unless I do your dizzle swap at some point..

I missed 5 yr's in a row of this fishing trip building the K5/Mutt... never again will I not take my week up there... :deal:

I'm a beer drinking dude, I have to love camping.... :haha:

heck, I just got a new axe, now there's a combo! :haha:

if/when the K5 isn't done next sept, I will go anyway, as motivation to git-r-dun... so if the stars/paychecks align, maybe for 015 it will be done..

this is what we normally fish in...

but at 12.6, it's just too small for the nearby, bigger lakes.. it has no freeboard, can only hang a 15 on it too....

you could be happy fishing our back creeks/smaller lakes, for a lifetime, but we'd like to go explore Saranac Lake, even Tupper, etc for other fish too.. 16 would be as big as we could go and still get thru the creeks..

I also want at least a 25, or even a 40, on the back, so it can have a rectifier to charge 3 group 27's for the trolling motor... recharging the bat's nightly is annoying......

need to start checking my contacts, and prep the green one for sale... that things gonna sell like a fine ho at my marina being a cute little tug/bumper boat kinda thing... :haha:

thats a luxo cruiser, we fished from the shoreline!

And definitely agree with taking some vac time....its good for...everything!

Nice, I need to have another camp/fishing adventure with my Brother, we have a pretty good time. I've never caught a pike but we have musky over her ( never caught one of those either) but they look like a lot of fun. do they taste pretty good?

I think the bigger fish are better smoked, the smaller ones fried in a pan with butter or breaded and fried.
That being said, I like Walleye and Bluegill the best for fresh water fish.

Looks like fun!

I remember going to a buddies cabin in the UP as a kid. Northerns up the a$$. Literally every time you cast your line out, and just slowly reeled it in... BAM. And they were nice too. Guess that's what happens when you have a cabin on a nice sized lake with only 2 other cabins around it in the middle of BFE lol.

there are muskie around in the other lakes, thus our desire for a bigger boat.. we've never caught one.. but they are the holy grail for the area, muskie and tiger.. some big lake trout too...

I hear the pike is actually outstanding eating, problem being they have a double bone thing going on so they are near impossible for "clean" eating... we never have tried...

yr's ago we used to eat the largemouth, we where catching so many... and bass is actually a very good light fish....

fish, garlic and butter wrapped in tinfoil, throw in fire..... mmmmmmmm.....

the record tiger muskie for the area for yr's was caught by a 10 yr old kid on a kayak... :eek1:

thing musta dragged him around all day, 35 lb, like 50" fish..... :haha:

Very nice man! Looks like a great trip, i didn't even get my Crestliner in the water this summer. I should be arrested for deriliction of duty............lol

thanks! we've had better yr's for sure northern-wise and total fish, but with the size/prevalance of the smallmouths and not getting skunked still made it a blast..

I figure I had about 25 fish if you factor in the 1/2 dozen perch I caught.. actually 2 of those where nice perch, about 1.5 lb's... so we where entertained at least....

think I'm gonna look to get a alumacraft jon boat...

I can get the 1442ncs for $1200 if something used doesn't turn up.... it's got good dimensions for us, the bottom is only 42" wide, beam 60", so that's good for getting thru the tight creeks... but TON's of room for 2 guys... 14' long....

could run our 15 hp on it till I find a 25 too...
