Funny how when I need a reliable answer, I come here rather than the Fitech users group page. But the knowledge is here, even if most don't like the FiTech. I have a 30002 unit, and I'm using the timing control and a CDI box. I had to send in my unit, and they replaced the ECU and sent it back I have since reinstalled it, wired all the sensors back in and downloaded my old tune that I had saved to a memory card. I was just ready to turn the key and see if we were done, and I thought about phasing the distributor. Do I need to go back and set that all up again? Seems that part is all mechanical, but how does the computer know where the rotor is pointing? Does it keep track of the rotor position since the first start when it was set to whatever degree advanced? Or does it recalibrate each start with the magnetic pickup? Hopefully someone will know, 'cause I really want to see if it;s going to start for me.

I think at the very least you have to run through the initial set up since it’s a new ecu. The physical part of the rotor is phased but the steps confirming that have to be done

The more I've been thinking about it, the only way I'm going to be able to relax is to do the whole process over. Otherwise, I will constantly be wondering if it's right, or if it's just close enough that I can't tell that it's wrong. But just for future reference, I'll see if it will start as it sits, and I'll compare the advance on the handheld to what it shows on a timing light.

Update: It was phased correctly, but now I'm certain. Dowloaded both my tune that I had saved, and the default V8 tune, neither would work. For some reason, the unit won't recoginze the number of cylinders. For the default tune, it says 168, and on my tune it says 144. I'll delete that number put in 8, send it, and then it goes right back to 168 and/or 144. So unless anyont has any tips on that, looks like I'll be on hold with Fitech tomorrow.
