I purchased a like new used 6 times ( and it shows clean inside and out ) 140c mig welder . it has the 100L gun head unit on it .

all went well except for the shield gas hardly comes out the end of the nozzle .

and yes I have welded for years / I know to check the basics .

full new bottle of 75/25 mix gas . reg flow set at 20 to start then 25 and still no difference.

I took the gun lead out of the body of the welder to check the O-rings and also for flow from the machine . all is good and no objects blocking the flow. I also took the set screw loose and removed the inlet nozzle tip for the wire . I did notice the inner linner core was not seated up to the tip base . also with tip seated and set screw locked down its a pita to start the wire like its droping from the inlet tip before it goes in the liner .

so I took the gun head all apart down to the linner its self . no blockage I could fine.

so all back together and lid up on the side of the welder and trying the trigger and I could hear a TON of gas movement next to the gun inlet tip at the wire guied / drive wheel area.

in my opinion the gas is not getting sealed in to the gun linner or its missing a part to seal it up and make it go down the liner .

any input would be super thanks .

Should be O-ring(s) there where the gun slides in. Either the gun isn't slid in all the way or an O ring is damaged or missing.
 
nope both there and brand new unit still have color on the orings .

if you lift the lid the gas is backfeeding out the inlet nozzle hole of the gun cable. ( the spot the wire feeds in to )
 
OK, so you have gas flow on trigger pull. It's making it to the base of the gun, but then back feeds into the drive roll area...

I have 20 years futzing with larger machines, and I currently have a Miller...however all I have ever messed with have two O-rings spaced a little apart with the orifice for the gas into the gun between the two O-rings.

If both O-rings are there, and you know it's seating correctly try using a blow gun at the orifice on the gun to see if you can get any air flowing to the gun tip. If you have tip cleaners for a torch use them to ensure the gas orifice on the gun base is clear. This gas issue may have been why you got a good deal on it.

I'd also use the blow gun at the end of the gun and try to blow air backwards through the gun.

If you get air flow through the gun, the issue is at the seat area in some way or another. Common issues I've found at that area are the gun not pushed in quite all the way as an example.
 
well doing more searching for pics / videos / install info I think I have found it .

the nozzle tip in the beginning of the gun up in the welder .

looks like all the new linner pics and videos I have found show the tip secured to the linner and NOT a separate item .

I think this is my problem . will call / stop at the local shop for a price .

got the deal on the welder as the guy only used it for 1 job and he then didn't need it for his reg job stuff . also had the factory flux core wire baby roll in it . all the gas stuff was still new in the wrapers . and the welder was vitualy spotless.
 
got a new liner today and installed it and all good now .

the factory crimp was weak and it let the liner slide out of the inlet nozzle .
 
thinking of making a bolt on bracket to bolt the 140c on top and do a tee fitting with valve to split the gas from 1 bottle .

whats your guys idea's on this ?

the cart I have the 140c on was from years ago and held my oxy/act setup and the c-25 mig gas bottle . then had all the tools down inside . now a days I don't need the cart anymore for my current setup . plus the cart needs new wheels bad .

yep was thinking of it . . . so I did it out of 3/4x3/4 angle .

all stock bolt holes on the 216 used .

and the 140c now has a new home and I have a LOT more floor space .

got a Y splitter with 2 valves for about 40.00 bucks for the gas .

off set so the door on the 216 still open's up all the way for service or spool change out.

you can hook the 2 welders to 1 bottle twoslo4five0 did it in recent post in the tool shed.
 
Cool set up with both welders together. I also just got a lightly used Lincoln Wel Pak 140 Mig welder. I cannot tell from your pictures if your 140 is a Power Pak or the cheaper Weld Pak like mine. I also have a lightly used Lincoln Weld Pak HD 88 AMP flux core welder. I am looking to sell that for $150 because my 140 AMP MIG can do anything the the 88 AMP flux core can do, thus redundant to have both.

I watched a Lincoln "how to" video on the 140, which covered the gas problem you had with it, and the fix you did was exactly what they mentioned as a possible problem.
 
little or BIG update how ever you look at it .

this combo has been serving my needs 100% . i am super happy with both units . the spliter valve has been working great also .only thing i dont like is the power mig 216 gun has chrome shields on it for the tip . they clog up / build up with crap way more then the older copper units did . even when i use nozzle dip .

i finally pulled the bracket off and painted it black and removed my yellow tap and re installed it . wow what a difference this made in the units look .

also i picked up today a BIG upgrade for this setup . . . a HUGE bottle :yikes: its just under 5ft tall . old one was 3ft range .

well happy update :

this welder combo was so well liked from all my friends one of them pulled the trigger and placed a order for one of his own .

ran in to a problem tho . the lincoln 216 power mig was last made and discontinued in 2018 . . . took me 5 hr+ of online and phone calls but i found him a old stock new floor display model . then the 140C was recently updated and now discontinued and is replaced with a 140MPC unit that does small stick / tig / mig . nothing against that unit but he didnt want it so we got on 140C local in the box new .

then i ordered up a stick of 3/4" x 3/4" angle and made up a 2nd bracket for the double decker build up . got the black paint out and made her black and installed them together . just wish they installed riv-nut / nutserts in the feet holes on the smaller welder tho . had to take it 3/4 apart to install 4 bolts for mounting studs . ( santa needs to get me a nutsert gun for xmas )

tested her out today and both work just fine and she is now ready for delivery . :waytogo:flagwaver

side note : never figured i would be making a 2nd unit . but now its just 1 of 2 units this way with my bracket kit .

went and did a thing today . 4 hr round trip for the deal .

been having random cut off problems with the 216 and i need to finish my BIG project so i went and purchased another welder . found another power mig 216 in good shape and welded good on test in shop . fingers crossed and when i get time i will dig in to my first unit and figure out its problem .

Open the old one up and clean the snot out of it.
They'll cut out now and then from sucking dust/debris through em with the cooling fan, and over heating.

I have always blown them out now and then . And already pulled the cover and it was 95% clean already . Learned this from my dads computer servicing days with dust build up .

And also checked the new/used one yesterday and it was real clean also inside .
