i got the 4 bolts out but theres something else holding it on? The haynes manual mentions u joints but i dont see how theyre holding it on, and if they were i have no idea how to take them off. any help? I got the crossmember out and the bolts out, just need to deal with this. Thanks! oh yeah, 86 m1008 np208

BFH. The bolts are out the flanges have a centering ring that is binding.

i cant bang it out and i dont wanna dent anything, i also cant depress the shaft, i guess i gotta disconnect it at the front diff too?

well im out of options here, i took the d shaft off the front diff and im using all my strength to try to pull on it, no go. I really dont know what else to do here, its just not budging

You should be able to really smack it without doing any damage. Mine has rusted together before also. Hit it, turn it, hit it, turn it....

You could try a chisel between the mating surfaces, but you may have to file things smooth again before reassembly. The only thing I don't like about hammering away at the flange is the stress on the output bearing and snap ring in the 'case. You don't want to put too much heat to it for the sake of the output seal and the u-joint seals.

How about this? Put the tranny in park, and the T-case in 4LO. Make sure the front hubs are unlocked and then use a pipe wrench to turn the driveshaft.

Good thought! May want to soak it in Pb Blaster or something too. There is a little collar on the inside that absolutely loves to rust the two surfaces together.

Yep PBblaster, liquid wrench whatever your preference is, then I would hit the round part of the flange trying to drive it away from the axle. spray, hit rotate, hit, rotate, hit rotate, then spray again and leave it sit if you want. then repeat
