well when I bought the truck, the PO had drilled through the roof and installed a CB antenna, well it got ripped out and he did a GHETTO repair job on it. Heres the pic

Anyways I wanted to get it fixed before winter time so I pulled it in the garage and started beatin on stuff up there to find that the roof wasnt split but it was just the 2 inches of bondo and silicone. Anyways I get it down to bare metal and sand it down clean. It turns out it was a hole about the size of a quarter. I didnt want to use all bondo and wanted something VERY strong and sealed. I put a piece of tape from the bottom of the whole and spread some Jb weld over the hole to smoothe it out.I let this harden for about 4 hours then peeled the tape off the back. Tested it for leaks after sanding it smoothe. Everything was A-OK. The Jb weld sunk in a bit creating a little dent which I was prepared for. So I mixed up a little bondo and filled that in then just gradually sanded on that till it was smoothe. It was super hot outside when I sprayed on the primer so it came out crappy. But im going to take some real Fine grit and sand it lightly again and repaint. Heres an after shot. Note the small circle blemish isnt where the hole was. It was where I dropped a rag on the primer :doah: This was my first body work experience and I dont think it turned out too shabby. Bring on the rain!

That looks pretty schlick, you did pretty good there. Have you thought of getting vocational training in this sort of stuff? I like body work too and I'm not that smooth.

p.s. when you do the sanding, use a long piece of sandpaper attached to a stick and run that back and forth across the surface. That way you'll get the smoothest line possible.

ya thats exactly what im planning on doin. im gonna do the whole roof since theres surface rust in some spots and I dont want it to get out of hand. Once I get it sanded again and primered (good this time) ill post up more pics. And ya I have thought about maybe takin some training, But right now im very interested in learning to tig weld.
