Our Kids friend reareded a car she is 19 and saving for college, so our kids volunteered to help her out... or should I say they voluntarily also go me involved.

Picked it up Monday from the impound yard it got towed to. They brought it out with a Case621 pay loader with forks! Well I didn’t need to winch it on the trailer and they didn’t damage it from how they moved it so is was all good. The look on the girls face when she seen her truck come around the corner was funny!

Not to bad, Rad and trans cooler are done, truck wouldn’t start. There is a reset switch for the fuel pump behind the kick panel on the pass side! I didn’t know Ford had that!? Called buddy and he showed it to me.
I had the trans cooler bypassed so it starts and we can move it with no coolent. Got all the bent and broken shit of the front end.

Called my Hutterite buddy’s that live an hour away from us because I remembered that they used to drive Ford Rangers around their farm.
They said yeah we have one Maybe? it might have some parts we could use... Told me to come have a look.

We went there yesterday to see it, he points and says its behind those water tanks over there.

We drive out to the water tanks and couldn’t see it? Looked a bit more... Oh wow!
Turns out it got backed over by a Cat!! Operator didn’t see it!

Suprisingly it has all the front end parts we need to fix our friends Ranger. Need to pick it up after it quits raining. Got it for 200.00 and they said it was still running after it got flattened. So we should be able to sell the engine and a few other things and actually make some money!

Here is pics of the 04 Ranger that we are fixing and the flattened parts truck!

Drove over it with a Cat. :haha:
Is that the girl whose car you’re helping to fix and if so is that about the same look she had at the impound yard?

I’d look at the crumple zone really carefully with the hood being bent and possibly the passenger side fender pushed back. Do you know how fast she was going when she rear ended the car?

LS swap it

yeah, no. I can’t

pretty sure that is his daughter that has the 01 Cummins in the pic

I've "fixed" a couple of friend's Ford trucks in the past when they slid off the road in the swamp and bumped a tree too hard.
Ford started putting those inertial switches on cars and trucks when they started using electric fuel pumps. The idea is that in a wreck the fuel pump will not keep pumping fuel out of a broken line. Not sure if they are still using them or not. Don't think they are. For whatever reason, the onboard computer pretty much turned the pump off until it was needed instead of turning it on. The default setting was on.
If you removed the program out of the computer in order to reflash it, the fuel pump would run until the computer woke up again.

They put the switches in different places. Some under the dash, and some in the truck of various cars. I used to have a booklet that told where they were in each model.
As for the silver truck, ahh, it'll buff out. The blue truck might need some special polish.......
Surprised the air bags didn't fire on the silver one. I suppose the driver side might have, but there is no way the passenger's side did. It always breaks the windshield. I think its designed that way......

I'd expect the drive shaft to have fork damage...it's not easy to pick up a RWD vehicle with forks and not have the shaft contact the forks when the suspension droops as it is picked up..the exhaust may have got some damage too..

some good yards now have super long forks and go front to back . this picks the axle and suspension on each end .

We don’t know how fast she was going, the fenders gap is still good at the doors. The girl is my daughter in the pic she’s like Wtf! Lol!

There is a red button on the firewall in the cab on the pass side for the reset. I’ll tak a picture of it.

Yeah! But i haven’t seen anything wrong yet? I will for sure make sure though.

some good yards now have super long forks and go front to back . this picks the axle and suspension on each end .

They picked it from the side. Like Bob said you would think there would be some damage but actually the truck is fairly tucked up under there and I haven’t seen anything to concerning, I will have a good look though.

Good thread dean! Crashed Fords for the win.
Once you start fixing them up I'll have to unsubscribe. Lol!

I recall some older Ford Crown Vic police cruisers here had to have the inertia switch either by-passed or able to be re-set from the drivers seat, after some car wise crooks knew if they made a hard enough hit ,the cruiser would shut off,and they could make a clean getaway..
They just gave the cops a "brake job" and let them rear end their getaway vehicle..

A friend who worked for a towing company told me many of the Fords he got called to tow from store parking lots often only needed the inertia switch re-set to get them to start and run again..people would back into a Ford pulling out of a parking spot hard enough to set off the switch, but do no real noticeable damage, and take off!..

Got the blue one home. I asked what size Cat drove over it... D7H :doah:

The Fords must like Case loaders, 621 with forks loaded the sliver one. 721 with forks loaded the blue on on my trailer and when I got home Unloaded it with our 621. We got no forks so I just ran a couple chains around it. Wasn’t too worried I’d damage it much! :haha:

Just about finished with this Ford.

Mixed and matched the bumpers from the two trucks, I wanted to save the chrome.

Front crossmember was bent, pulled the out with the skid steer. Pulled the rad support and the fenders back in place with ratchet straps.

Replaced the rad, Ac condenser and trans cooler.
The years of the truck are different so the grill is a bit mixed and matched...made it work with what we had. Painted any blue parts we used with Rockgaurd Black. Got a little bit of adjusting to do on the bumper and a few odd and ends but only spent 210.00 getting it to here.
