well, Im kinda back! After a 2 hear hiatus, Im back. And I want my k5 back on the road.

So a few questions of rust repair-

I have some rust through on the riser area- right under the rear seat. Does anyone have a picture of it as it was from the factory? I was thinking about cutting out the whole corner, bending up some 18GA or 20GA, then shrinking it to make the bend.(to maintain factory looks). Not that it really matters all that much, it is under carpet. Then I would just make a nice stiff roll using a .5" pipe as a guide, flange the edges, punch some holes, spot weld in place, then slowly seam weld it up.

if you look at the part, it is part 4- left rear. That 6" riser is what needs to be replaced.

Now, here's the tricky part- Do I use weld through primer, or do I just clean up, weld, then use zinc chromate, then seam sealer? Should I butt weld instead? I can, if its better, but in this case Its a debate between strength and possibly leaving a crack in a vulnerable area to corrosion.
