For few years now I have been highly suspicious of any and all hydraulic flat tappet lifters.
Mainly not being machined and hardened correctly.
Sent some melling back to Summit, no parting line.
Today I received some GM liftersIMG_20240123_115216.jpg

I am very pleased to the parting line, and will now be able to finish a spare 355, that has been on hold for a long time.
Paid $185. For 16. Expensive, but what is the cost of an engine these days

I haven't used hydraulic flat tappets for quite a while since jumping into the LS world. Roller Hydraulic lifters have also had quality issues over the last couple years. Glad you ended up with a good set.

The inadequate hardening is definitely an issue I've seen. The ones I've had issue with start with the word Edelbrock. Oop, there it is

Edelbrock owns Comp

Flat lifters are junk

Two truths for one price!

I used roller on my last 638, they were Comp, and i had no issues. And even though i used flatties in the previous build, it stock, and driven lightly and infrequently, but I've had em wear way faster than they should, and one ate a cam lobe (mild low end tq truck cam)

Powell machine has a good explanation of lifter issues. They are pointing to the face grinding, the hardness they tested for all hit the spec but the grind was all over the place. I need a set for this 250 and it will probably take a few sets to make a good one.

I have a used set that I'm going to have the local cam grinder reface so I can use on a new cam that will also come from them.

Has anyone checked out the Crower camsaver lifters?

I have some orifice faced solid lifters in my BBC, that seem to be holding up well, but they were made 15 years ago too.

If they survive the first 1k miles I think your good till several 10s of k

Got a set of genuine gm lifters today. As a 16 piece set the part number is 12371044. Individual bag number is 05232720.

I’m going to get the gm lifters for the 250, the local deal has to order them in.

After watching the Powell Video, I check some NOS lifters that were purchased somewhere around 2000. They are Johnson h187. I didn't think they were good, be cause there is no parting line.
Using a magnifying glass (no where near as strong Powell) I examined the new GM vs Johnson. The Johnson look very nice no flaking on the champers, no debris tracks. I may use them. I also have another set of H187 that were purchased 20 years ago nib, but I need to find and check them.
