Flex plate removal question

I don't think you will have the room to do it that way. Although i've never tried to do one like that. I just don't see having enough clearance.

Nah. What you can do, and what I did was got a couple long ass bolts and thread them in in a few spots, support the trans and t case and move the trans back a few inches. Pull the plate out reinstall and stab it back in.

Man I did not want to hear that. Well I gota do what I gota do. It's a lot of work for just chasing the dragon so to speak. Out of the blue something is grinding on the flex plate cover(TH400 the cast aluminum cover/tooth protector) and I can not see anything with fresh shiny rub marks.,so I'm thinkin:thinking: maybe one of the weights may of broke a weld or something like that:dunno:I'm just grasping at straws at this point.

Yep I have done it the way norcal describes, I do pull the driveshafts and depending on clearance you may be able to leave the tcase connected, let the motor lean down some insert 4 long bolts and slide the trans back, swap the flexplate, then push the trans back in place. It will stay lined up. Makes it easier but still kind of a pain.

Torque converter ballooning?

If a weight came off I would think you will have the weight sitting in the bottom of the inspection cover?

Maybe the cover is dented? or the starter is dragging on the flexplate. Try running it without the cover and see if it still grinds...

Ok so I have / had the same problem. The flex plate bolts are rubbing on the torque converter housing. I pulled the cover off a few weeks ago and could see rub marks on the cover so I beat it out a little with a rubber mallet and bolted it back on.I also ran it without cover(no noise at all) and checked all the bolts to make sure they were tight. Problem solved until yesterday. I ran some dirt roads the day before and had no noise then same roads yesterday and the bolts started rubbing again pretty severely. Don't know what is causing it? Thanks for any help
