Went up to the yard to do the XJ steering shaft swap this weekend and decied to partially crush a car. lol. It was alot of fun and highly recommend everyone to do it. lol. With only running 33s and one car to climb on, I couldnt go up on the roof area. With 2 cars I may have had a better chance, who knows. Anyways, on with the poser shots. lol

LoL..yeah I wouldve liked to, but I couldnt get up over the roof line, My tire kept wanting to go thru the windsheild and inside the truck, 35s or bigger may have gotten me over the roof.

man thats my car........ lol jk but yeah looks fun cant wait to get my big blue and white yard parking lot ornament back on the road

nice. how did the XJ shaft swap go? I am assuming you have the 4x4 steering gear box... did the shaft bolt/connect right on to it? I am wanting to do this upgrade, however I am under the impression it only works for 4x2 gear boxes.

Very simple bolt-in for my '87 4x4. Hardest part was getting the XJ shaft to collapse so I could get it installed.

The XJ swap was easy. The hardest part is getting the old one off the K5. If you really look at the rag joint, youve got 2 nuts/bolts top and bottom and then 2 bolt looking things, once you unbolt the rag joint, I jus took bolt cutters and cut one of those bolt looking things from the rag joint to pull it outa the way.

The splined end is the same on the k5 as the XJ, yes, Ive got a stock 4x4 steeringbox.Ive got an 84 K5 , The steering column is the same only you have to modify it ever so slightly. On the K5, thebolt runs thru the middle of it all. on the XJ it is on the outside, so you have to grind part of the steering that sticks thru the firewall to get a bolt on (its easier than im trying to describe). it took me about 5 minutes with a dremel tool and grinding wheel.

To collapse the XJ steering shaft, jus find the two lil holes around the middle of the shaft and jus drill them out and then take a ballpeen hammer and go to town. I took the 2 halves apart, cleaned them up and grease them up really well.

This is probably the best bang for the buck ever for upgrades. The shaft cost me 5bux at Upull it, but I couldve gotten it for free at the yard we were working in, I didnt know if they had any XJs and didnt have time to check b4 hand, well they have 3 XJs and a ZJ, so I had my pick. The whole process takes 1/2 hour at the most and that is taking my time.
