I plan to keep this truck for a long time, so I want to fix it right. I also figured there's no better place to gather opinions and "how-to's" about how to fix a rusty K5 than right here! Please take a look at the pictures and let me know what you think. Thank you!

See... She's worth saving (although I'm sure my opinion is biased a bit).

The only right way to fix that is to cut the rot out, and weld in new metal. You can get chunks of floor from LMC and the like, but some parts you may need to make yourself.

So, the question I have for you is do you have a welder and other metal working tools?

The truck looks extremely decent, and if your pic's show all the rust it's not that much to fix really.

What do you think of these patch panels?

Yes... I have access to a welder, and a bro-in-law who's pretty good at it. :-)

There is no rust on any exterior panels under the paint that I've noticed, and I have polished and buffed every inch of the painted body many many times. All the rust that I've found is in the front floor boards. However, I should probably pull the whole interior carpet out and see everything at one time, just to be sure.

Depends on how you want it to look. That rot is going to extend into the inner rocker. Its where it stems from.

That being said you could buy a floor panel and completely replace the floor if you want it to look factory or cut out the bad and thin and patch it back together with sheet metal.

I will say I went the patching method in the 442 because I didnt want to do all the work associated with drilling spot welds and replacing full floors and it wound up being more work in the end piecing **** together...

Just be careful. This thread started because the Chief wanted some advice about using Rust Bullet on some rust he wanted to get rid of..........

Almost 5K replies so far...........

I saw where you were looking at it. Better grab some snacks and a drink.......

Check out my build thread in my sig below. Go to post 450 or so and start lookin at the pics. All you need is a welder, a vice, and a grinder with lots of cut off wheels.
