I need some advise...

I tore out the interior of my 73 Jimmy. It has mostly surface rust and adhesive in the front part of the floor board with some cancer in the crevice next to the door. The cancer is right in the crevice and it doesnt look like its too much...Southern Cali truck.

I am in the process of preping the entire floor board and bed for truck bed liner.

so far I have:

1. scraped the adhesive with adhesive remover

what should I do next? I plan on:

1. grinding some of the rust off

2. cutting out the cancer off

3. have one of my friends weld a piece of sheet metal in the cancer holes

4. brush or roll everything with a rust stopping paint that turns rust into primer

5. and finally roll and brush on some truck liner

Any suggestions on how to proceed? Any suggestions on what brand of truck liner I should buy?

How much do I really need prep before I use the truck liner?

You need to prep the surface very well. Get rid of all the rust and then clean it. as far as a good product. I would suggest al's liner. His name is blaze on here. It's a great lookin product and everyone has been happy with it. It's what I'm going to use when I do my interior

when you say get rid of all the rust...do you mean sand it? grind it? or use a rust remover/ rust inhibitor product? or is a rust paint good enough?

cut out just the cancer?

How do I know when the sheet metal is too rusted to be painted over?

Aside from the cancer in the door opening crevice...the sheet metal is not brittle....it has some rust dimples...but it seems like if I sand a little I can use the red paint i bought at Home Depot that says it turns rust to primer.

Remember I want to patch the cancer holes and weld new pieces to be able to use truck liner on the entire floor board
