The footwell for the passenger and drivers areas sounds like it is popping and flexing when I turn corners. I checked the body mounts and 3 of the 4 under the drivers /passenger area were snug, but with my breaker bar I got another 1/4-1/2 turn on the bolts. the passenger foot well body mount was so tight it wouldn't budge.

What else could cause this? The truck is rust free so I know it can't be caused by weakness in the body.

How do the shackle bushings look? When mine was making a popping it was the spring rubbing on the bottom of the frame and the shackle rubbing on the springs. Cured by replacing the bushings and going to a 1" longer shackle.
You should also check your U-bolts, if they are loose it will let the springs shift.

Could you literally feel the floor pan flex and POP under your feet though or was it just making noise. As far as I know, the rear bushing on the front springs are good. Not sure about the front bushing. I'm sure they all need to be replaced and greased. They all squeak and creak a bit when turning. But an actual POP and flex started the other day.

Pull the carpet up and check the floor around the seat bolts. They crack there a lot in the later trucks

I bet you find some old patches.

I don't know my dad was the first owner of the truck. I am the second. I don't remember him ever pulling our the interior of the truck for anything. :dunno:

Then again the truck is older than I am, so who knows :haha:

I'm betting on cracks around the seat mounts.... SUPER common...

What Chris said. Mine was doing the exact popping thing you describe and the springs were the problem. Got a pal to turn the wheel while I was under it looking at the springs.
The center bolt worked itself loose as did the u-bolts allowing the spring to fan out as the wheel turned. The springs would bind as they slide as across each other and then pop free causing the noise and floor board feeling.
Look for loose spring clamps at either end of the spring packs as a sign of moving springs.

It could be any of the suggested problems, however, My floor broke right at the rear seat bolt (nearest to the console) and the floor split in multiple directions (spider web-style). Welded it all back together and that was 6 years ago. No problems since.

Definitely worth looking at. If nothing else, to eliminate it as a possibility. You can inspect a lot of the floor from underneath without pulling the carpet up.

Well, thought I fixed it. Got 1/4 turn on a couple body mount bolts and 1/8 turn on 3 of the 4 drivers side u bolts.

Felt good driving down the road. Then I went wheeling at Disney with Cruz89k5 and it popped and flexed likee crazy. Looks like I will have to rip the interior out :doah:

Floor pops

All of the guys are right on this one. I would check the floor first though. I have been restoring and building this body style for over 20 years and the guys who said they had floor problems are right on the money. Fixed tons of floors. Funny thing is most people don't seem to notice or just don't care. Will only get worse as time goes on. The floors take alot of abuse in the blazers as they really have no place to flex like a pickup does. So if the blazer hits some really hard angles the floor is naturally going to split at any weak point (seat bolt holes, seat belt mounts, thinner sheet metal from years of surface rust and erosion) you get the idea. Even if you don't have rot issues if the metal was not coated and maintained over the years it will be thinner. You may have even poped some of the spot welds on the under carriage of the body if you have been hitting any really crazy stuff. I've also fixed loads of cracks in the upper body regions on the half top blazers. I think this was due to the floors being solid and the stress had to give somewhere. You might also want to check your roof for cracks! Chevy used some thinner sheet metal on the newer blazers than they did in years prior and that is where the problems came from. If you ever ride in an 81 up blazer alot of them have a really bad rattle in the hood surface as they are going down the highway. I've seen the sheet metal actually bounce up and down when a semi passes the vehicle. I used to spot weld the hoods to the under brace to eliminate the rattle and then shrink the steel to harden it up. Had lots of happy customers who hated the thin nasty hoods on their trucks and blazers. Just my opinion though so take it as you will. Luck with your blazer and best to you.

S*** why are you guys always right. Pulled the passenger seat, there are cracks on the rear mounts.

I'm sure there are some on the drivers side too. I guess tomorrow I'll strip the interior then find some one to patch it up.
