flowtech 11500flt

Straight header won't hurt your engine unless it's computer controlled and tuned for O2 sensors in the exhaust. I would watch any thing behind where the headers dump, it will get really hot. You will find out whether you like it loud or not though:D

i just bought some on sale with my discount at autozone snyone have any sugg. before i start on them? im going to spray them down with high heat paint before i install them. i have never installed headers so any help would be awesome. i got a 6" lift if that matters.

For what it's worth, I've had Flowtech Ceramics on my 89 going on 14 years with no issues. I installed a slightly modified Crate w/TBI mods about 4 years ago (26Kmi) and used Felpro. Again, no issues. Duals into Magnaflows, 2 1/4" to the rear corners w/sliced balogna tips.

I would have gone with the Hookers since I have had good luck with them in the past, but these were a deal at the time and I figured I'd upgrade whenever these went tits up. So far, I got no reason to change.

Ill never go back to hooker headers. If you look at my pic I posted on page 1 or 2. The very back bend was hitting the trans linkage bar that runs from firewall down to tranny. Plus it was poor fit on the passenger side, was hitting the shackle and had to bend the header some to get it to fit.

Im not 100% sure who makes the ones on my truck, they were free from a friend of mine , he was going to put them on his K5, but it didnt work out. They are either FlowTech or Heddman, not sure which, but they fit alot better than the hookers and were lighter as well.

my trucks an 87 and when i was doing the spart plugs a couple days ago i did notice an o2 sensor. and these headers dont have a input for one. what shall i do now!

Take the header to a muff shop and have them weld a bung to the header for the O2 to screw into. Just look to make sure where the header goes that you dont put the bung somewhere you cant reach it.

Personally. if I was you. Here is what I would do.

Take header to muff shop, have bung welded on.

Install header onto your truck

Get your truck towd to muff shop and have them complete the exhaust work.

RUnning open headers with computer controlled truck is asking for trouble. Your computer relies on taht O2 signal to tell it what to do. You could either run super rich or super lean by running it around with open headers, if it was a quick 5-10minute trip to muff shop, maybe, but anything else I certainly wouldnt risk it.

ok i will take it to get a hole drilled. also i was going to try to do the exhaust my self. i just wanted maybe 4ft of pipe and muffler. that is all and a bend to go out behind the passenger/driver doors. could i do this? is it hard to hang exhaust?

Naw, its not hard to do yourself. Just get the proper reducer and gasket and then the rest is just fitting the pipe to the reducer and the muffler of your choice. If you have a bender that makes it all the better.

i just dont understand those damn exhaust hangers they piss me off. how do they work becuse i dont have a welder

Heh..welcome to the world of "that is why I go to muff shop" :D

Ive seen ppl get some wacky hangers and just screw them to the underside of the body or various places. Your going to have to get creative, just take your time and do a good job, you dont want your exhaust falling off miles from home and you dont want it getting in the way of driveshafts, etc.

Heh, not as easy as you thought it would be, eh? :haha:

i may just get a bung drilled in my header and run it to the exhaust shop somewhere and have them run a little bit of piping instead of my hanging it up with clothes hangers. i just want a loud a$$ muffler. what about purple hornies or something along those lines. Race muffler???? any ideas

short glasspacks are loud, or flowmaster 40 or 44 series. I run FloPro MX500's and they're probably not loud enough for ya haha:D

Not going to get into a whole lot, but you need to study backpressure and pipe diameter and length. Going with a short wide open exhaust will net max HP, but lack TQ. IMO, when 4x4ing we want as much torque as possible, unless your mud bogging (highspeed wheel spin).

As far as loud, thats on you, but itll get old. I had my true duals ran without cats and it was full length exhaust and I couldnt handle the raspy-ness of it. so I had some catco cats installed and it helped a bunch.

besides running headers what exhaust diameter should i go with? i do want torque but i want to be loud!!!

2 1/4" duals for 305 or stock/mild 350. 2 1/2" duals for a built 350. 3" duals is way to big for anything 350 or smaller.

For single exaust, 3" will work just fine.

I run 2 1/4" duals with Flowmaster Super 44's on my K5. It's loud. So loud infact that I have been pulled over a few times for it.

thanks i guess i will run my headers into purple hornies and see what that sounds like and if its ungodly loud i will run some 2 1/4" pipe from the glasspacks to infront of the back wheels.

im buying the headers tommorow and i got a purple hornie muffler for free or straiht pipe because thats what it looks like. i can get um for about 89.99 before taxes. i figure i would take off the cheapy paint and put some nice header paint on it then run some purple hornies. what do you all think??? anyone have this setup

i run these headers, well the truck runs int he driveway, the truck will be insured monday. anyways they fit great, i did get the flowtech aluminum dead soft gaskets, just keep tightening them after everytime you run them and you wont have issues with blowing out gaskets. I might even loc tite them to see if that will help.

also, it will look like you have an underhood fire when the paint burns off...:wink1:

also, im running dual 2.5 inch stainless straight out the back with my tbi, its got a 3 inch k&n with airstream top.. and now headers. Although I have a sneaking suscpision my all factory truck was chipped,

NEXT PAY CHECK IM GETTIN THose and my purple hornies. AND THATS IT. do you think it will be loud enough?

Just to say it again. Don't paint over the paint that is on them. It will just burn off. You will need to strip them down with some paint stripper and then repaint them. Or, just don't paint them at all.

I bought hookers for my truck and the only issue I ran into was slight motor mount interference, everything seems to fit well, and plenty of shackle and driveshaft clearance. I also had hookers on my 74 nova with a 350 and had no issues there either. I will buy hookers again when the time comes.
