Where can I find capacities for the transfer case, transmission, axles, etc. I'm looking to replace them all with Redline synthetic. I use it in my Corvette and it really smoothed out the 6-speed. Anyone else using synthetics?

Various manuals like Chiltons or Haynes. Or call a parts house and they can look it up.

Hey Russ
I went to Pep Boys and bought a Haynes, but it only has recommended types not capacities.

Haynes manual says to "drain and refill to proper level with the correct grade of oil." ...not much help.

Chilton's manual... looks like...to refill after draining...
4speed=8.0 pts.
Auto TH-350= 5.0 pts ...More if used with an tranny oil cooler.
Auto TH-400= 7.0 pts.
Auto TH-700R4= 10.0 pts
NP 208= 6.0 pts
Front axle= 5 pts
Rear axle= 8 1/4" ring gear?? = 4.25 pts
8 1/2" ring gear= 4.2 pts
8 7/8" ring gear= 3.5 pts
9 3/4" ring gear (Dana)= 6.0 pts
10 1/2" ring gear (Dana)= 7.2 pts
10 1/2" ring gear (Chevy)= 6.5 pts

I could be wrong on this, but this is straight out of my Chilton's manual. Hope this helps.

I had one of those old big Chiltons that had them in it. I just looked at this piece of junk Chilton I now have and, it doesn't list them. Anyway, I just changed fluid in both axles and the case. I went to Checker, had them look up the capacities. Added it up and came up with just over 2 gallons so I got 2.25 gallons of 80W90. Got a quart left so all is well...

Oh well, I just found it in my special purpose Chiltons. I just got it and don't know where everything is yet. Frankly I rarely use it, I mainly got it for torque specs and such...

Thanks Ryan
Did it say if the 10 qts for the TH700R4 included the converter? Also how do I know which axle I have? It's a 10 bolt, is that the 8 1/4"?

I though the transfer case took ATF? Or is that just on the NP 208s?

For 205s, late cases call for ATF, older cases GL5 (80/90). Same case, same parts, same tolerances. I prefer the heavier oil so that is what I use. It's also what I always used on my older 205s so, sticking with what I know...

It didn't say if that was including the torque converter or not. I would assume so... you fill the tranny down the dipstick tube, then turn over the engine a couple times to pump up the converter then check the fluid level, and add as necessary.

I thought the 10 bolt rears are 8 1/2" and the 12 bolts are 8 7/8" ring gears... thats why i put a ? next to the 8 1/4" but 4.2pts and 4.25pts ...whats the difference?
