What fluid does everyone recommend to run for hydro assist? I am planning on just plain old power steering fluid unless someone tells me different. I will be running a redneck ram setup.

What does everyone run and why?

More demanding applications like better fluid. For most of what we do wal-mart fluid is probably fine since you know they buy it from someone that makes their own brand oil. Want to use it harder and take better care of it, the next step up seems to be the GM factory fluid. We run the Amsoil tractor hyd. oil in our Ultra4 steering system (PSC full hydro).

No matter what if you keep it cool the pump and the fluid will be happier longer.

I use HYTRAN in mine even before the hydro assist. It doesn't seem to thin out as much with heat.

You have to be a little careful with thicker oil in cold climates, we had a local customer blow up a cooler in the cold here this winter. We recommend the tube and fin or heat sink "finned log" type only, and try to keep the fluid thin in the cold.
