fluidampr question

I am now in the money spending phase of my build. I have paid for my complete long block, comp motor mounts, turbo, serp setup, and cooling upgrades. I still need to order the oil by-pass, trans case poly mount, exhaust, and possibly a fluidampr.

I have two used 6.2l balancers that look to be in good shape, but I am guessing it would be wise to purchase a new one for my new engine. I am correct in this thinking?

Is the fluidampr worth the $400 (or $250 over a OEM balancer)?

By nature it should be a better balancer by utilizing the fluid balancing dynamics. A metal ring on a rubber cushion can only move so much to balance. Guys on other diesel sites have mentioned that their engine clatter has been reduced noticeably by installing a fluidampr. The fact that it cannot fail, and will outlast your engine is a nice touch as well. For as much as you've spent on your engine already, I'd wouldn't cheap out last minute myself!

X eleventybillion...

It'd be a crime to bolt up a used OEM balancer on MaxPF's pristine longblock IMNSHO.

OK, so definitely a new balancer. I was planning on doing this anyway, but thought I would check.

So fluidampr over OEM?

From all accounts at the dieselpage, it sounds like the fluidampr is the real deal.

I would agree soley based on the physics of it. Fluid filled dampners have been used for ages on extremely high RPM engines for good reason!

like they said, they work and they last.

BUT BUT BUT, if you put a ding in the face of one. your engine is done for. the weight inside will seize on the pinched steel. it effectively becomes solid. and you engine will shake itself to death. probably pound the mains out 1st. then break the crank.

so don't drop it, or pry on it. or hammer it. or anything of the sort. and It'll do what it was designed to do.
