Newbie question. :D

What is the proper way to flush your cooling system?

I'm getting a lot of different suggestions.

I have a 91 chevy suburban and need to replace the radiator, going to flush it first.

I was going to use a prestone back flush kit and follow this:

http://www.automedia.com/Radiator_Flush/ccr20010501rm/2

Some people say the kit sucks and don't use flush cleaner because is could stir up to much stuff in an old engine.

What you guys think?

I used that little Prestone splice adapter thingy and hooked up a water hose to it on my Ford truck a few years back. At first the water coming out was a little brown (rust I guess) and then it started coming out clean pretty quick. I was having over heating problems with that truck. When I did the flush, I noticed that there were a lot of leaves and pine straw and stuff in front of the rad that was blocking the air flow. I cleaned all that out while the coolant was draining so I could do the flush, so I don't know if the flush did a whole lot of good or if removing the debris in front of the rad helped the most. The truck didn't overheat anymore though.

I have the kit on my s10. Works well and is fast. I will flush it several times in a week, after each day of 40+ miles of driving. Gets it clean. BUT, I was also changing out the fluid to the green stuff (from the Dexton Red sh1t). So it had to be done many many times to get the red stuff out. Also, there are two drain plugs in the block, one on each side. They just look like fat bolts with fine threads sticking out near the pan. Flush it a few times and drain those a couple as well. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
be careful when draining the block. Years of crap in the system falls to the bottom and clogs those drains. Use a screwdriver to punch through the bolt holes. When you do this it will come out and prolly all over you haha. So, if nothing comes out, check with the screwdriver.

I think I will go ahead and use this thing.

The million dollar question is which on is the inlet hose?

One hose goes toward the back of the engine (I'm guessing this is it)

The other hose goes to the top of the radiator.

Its a TBI 350 in a 91 suburban.

Mahalo,

Again

It's the little hose that goes to the intake manifold. I think it comes out of the heater core. I think...:dunno: I can't remember.
