Flushing the engine oil cooler

I have an 85 6.2 and each time I change the engine oil it turns black the second I start the motor. I'm guessing the engine oil cooler is retaining a few quarts of oil which dirties up the new oil.

Does anyone flush the oil cooler during oil changes? Or is this something that people just live with? I'm coming from the world of gas motors where an oil change results in nice clean oil...
