looking for a pair off fog lights. would like them too be glass not plastic lens. 5 inch diameter .maybe led want a strong beam not flood. willing to pay a reasonable price ,but nothing crazy.what do you guys use ?

Check out ebay, there are some Westin lights, around 5-3/4" diameter...for around $30 a pair... almost the same as the hellas..

Interested in this also...Lets also see some mounting ideas/pics if its ok expand the thread idea here...

6" KC Day Lighter knock-offs......$30.....and KC yellow Lite Shields lens covers....great for fog/snow/rain driving:waytogo:

i get the idea's! its not for my jimmy, its for my 2011 sierra i want too install in place off the fog lights.the holes are 5.1/2 inch diameter, and i want them to come on when i dim on high beam.the light are nice and bright and wide, but not as far as i like! already hit 2 deers in the past years and hopefully not a 3 one!!!:doah:thats why i would prefer glass over plastic so they would last longer.

seen folks use motorcycle headlights as fog lights...cheap to replace, real glass instead of plastic, and did I mention cheap....:D:waytogo:

Here's an idea that may or may not help you. In my GTP I replaced the factory plastic fog lamps with some glass ones the same size. They take those little 50W halogen bulbs. I think having a metal relector that focuses may be more help than moving from plastic to glass for the lens. Anyway, oncoming traffic didn't like them so I made them high/low beam. Now some lamp housings may actually allow you to install a two filament bulb, which is another great idea. I didn't have that, so I used a relay to run the bulbs through a resistor on low beam and direct on high beam. The nice thing about filament bulbs is they get yellower as you dim them, in line with the fog/driving light idea. I think the resistor was about 0.8 Ohm, but the correct value depends on the bulbs you choose. Keep in mind this is a giant resistor - it should be rated for about the same power as the bulbs. Looking back, it would have been cooler to build a PWM controller, but I had some resistors laying around and it's been working fine for years.

There are DRL systems that run the bulbs in series. This is very simple and efficient, but I don't know if you would get enough brightness.

I think I have seen some housing that take two bulbs, which would be about the coolest way. So you could run a yellow bulb for "fog" and some killer bright bulb for "driving". 5.5" is a lot of room to work with.

2 bulbs would be cool. i look that up!the only time i played with resistors, they were really small and the only place i found them was at a guitar shop.what do you mean by PWM ? blue85i should take a picture i have 2 old yellow fog lights they are still in the box,at our shop. been dragging there for ever.

PWM = Pulse Width Modulation. It's switching on and off thousands of times per second. The voltage delivered to the light/motor/load is based on the percentage of "on" time to "off" time. Easy to adjust the brightness, smaller and more efficient than a resistor.

Hey Blue85, you mentioned building a PWM controller,,,, I don't want to hijack the thread, so could I talk to you about some Cadillac seats? I would appreciate a PM.
Thanks
