On the way home last night my windows started to fog up, so I turned the defrost on and the fog got worse. Finaly I had to crack a window to see.

What up???

Thanks Brett

Either that, or you heater core is starting to leak, and adding extra condensation to the mix.....

Just changed out my heater core on Saturday. Found a pinhole leak in it once I got it removed. Part is about $28......labor, 2 hrs or so.

Any slight sweet smell in the cab?

Thats how I read that. Way too fast lol. :haha:

That's funny! And a little scary to think about.....:eek1:

Man, did I pick the right day to do that heater core......a good 60 or 63 on Saturday and sunny. Now, snowing and 14 degrees. :dunno: I also dropped in the new A/C condenser, dryer and evaporator while I was in there.

Yep looks like it is the heater core. I just noticed it leaking from the fire wall under the glove box. Lets see its 13 degrees and the blaze is covered in a thick coat of ice, Good times!!!! Jeff you say the the core is only 30 bucks?

Yep, if you can get the heater box apart without breaking it!

Good luck, and make sure to check all your blend doors, etc....

Yea, I think it was about $26 at O'Reilly's and $28 at AutoZone. They were within a block from one another so I bought the O'Reilly's and took it to AutoZone for a comparo. Side by side, very different. OR's was a copper looking one with large fins and the AZ was an aluminum looking one. I opted for the copper as it looked a little more beefy to my eyes.

Did some research and there wasn't an obvious winner.....different opinions. I did read that aluminum may have some corrosion issues when mixing different metals and the coolant. I figured, my radiator was copper so I should stay consistent with that.

Once I pulled the core out, it looked pretty identical to the copper one so that was assuring.

10 degrees here, I wouldn't attempt it today......:haha:

Couple of tips:
I unbolted the inner fender wheel well and pulled it down from the fender. I was able to gain access to the two bottom nuts on the bottomside of the firewall much easier.

Once you get the whole heater box out, there are two obvious screws that hold down the core. But there are also two more on the other end of the core....but they are under the foam perimeter strip.

Be gentle separating the box. The rod that holds the blending door goes all the way through on one side but the other side goes into a "small pocket". You can pull on the housing enough to get the small pocket side to separate.

Just take your time so you don't break any plastic. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I'm thawing her out in the garage now. And thanks for the luck. Looks like I'll need it.

Thanks for the good info, I have it in the garage now thawing out. I'll need to get a manual to help on this one.
