Yea, you know who you are! I've got a 1978 400 sbc with approx. 100,000 miles. I was thinking of buying one the Edelbrock top end kits, but I don't know if that is a good idea with this motor or even what should be checked before I do this. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Strip the motor first. You know what those 400s are like for cracks!!!
If the block's good but the heads are shot it may be a good option but is that the sort of power you want? I presume you're talking about their RPM kit? It's an impressive bolt on set up but the power is relatively quite high up the rpm scale. Good for the street or mud but general wheelin'? Not so sure.

I think that I would check out the bottom end before putting on performance top end parts. A better cam, heads and intake are going to make more power and rpms and I wouldnt want to spend a bunch of money just to have the bottom end come apart and ruin my new heads.

you can put together a much better setup cheaper. their cams absolutely suck.

X3 :p:

I want to run a Lunati Voodoo cam in my 305. I think you should check Lunati out.
