This thread is for you guys who have little experiance on the trails and are building a rig right now to hit the trails with...some of this might be helpfull to you and some may not be...

1.RIDE ALONG-Before your rig is done and complete get out and hitch a ride with a local buddy or someone going out that is in your area on this site...i would recomend going wheeling one time with the guys you plan on running with and where you plan on going on a frequent basis....this will really be the most helpfull tool in your build just as long as you can watch and listen carefully...

2.SAFTEY-saftey is a huge issue to me after seeing FORMUD's roll over....if your running rocks and climbing hills roll cages are nessary...one can save your life....also never be afraid to be the guy who asks for a spot or a winch or strap hooked up if you dont fell confterable...always have a first aid kit in your rig somewere....also just be carefull walking around on the trails nothing worst than rolling your ankle on a rock and having to limp off the trail.TAKE YOUR TIME!!

3.WINCHES AND HI-LIFTS-someone once told me that a winch is expensive till you need it :wink1:....dont buy a cheapo one just wait and buy a nice warn or ramsey....take the money you were gonna spend on a cheapo and buy a nice 60 inch hi-lift!!Not a 48 inch!!!spend the extra money on a 60 inch....bring plenty of straps, chains, clevis hooks,ect....never know what your gonna need out there...

4.BRING EVERYTHING-make sure somewhere on your rig there is a box of some sort that you can keep stuff in.....bring plenty of parts, tools, everything even the kitchen sink!!you can never have enough stuff to fix a broke rig (weather it be yours or someone elces)on the trail...

5.YOU DONT HAVE TO HAVE THE BEST OF EVERYTHING-i learned this weekend that some beat up junk can hang with just about anything if your you know the limits of your rig....gmc4cw opened my eyes to this he has hardly no money in his whole rig and he beats the snot out of it!!!and still keeps up no problem!!

6.SPEND YOUR MONEY ON GEAR SOME SORT,FUEL INJECTION,AND STEERING-with the talk of crazy flexing,4-linking,coil springing and all that stuff is nice but you dont have to have for the trail...you can run a shackle flip and a decent set of lift springs and be just fine...gear and fuel injection is not a nessary either but deffinitley nice to have....rule of thumb more gear the better :D...crossover is not a option is you plan on running any hard trails and really hydro assist isnt either...but at least have crossover if you dont have both...

and lastly

7.COMFORT-make sure your comforterable in your rig....suspention seats should be in every vehicle on the road (got spoiled this weekend)...also if you feel like it run a 5 point harness and just run around on the bypasses and easy trails with the lap belt or the lap belt and submarine belt...then when approaching a obstacle put the rest of the belt on...

all this being said (sounds very repotious to you guys that have been wheeling for a while)go out and have fun!!!thats what its all about right...
anyone elce have anything to add feel free to...

I agree with this but, everyone in your group doesn't need to bring everything. Try and split equipment up between vehicles. Obviously everyone should carry spare parts for their own vehcile, but its not necessary for everyone to bring a fully loaded toolbox.

Also bring food and water. You never know how long you might be stuck on the trail.

Dress accordingly.

Always throw something over a winch line that is in use. In case it breaks. I don't like to use chains. I get the biggest straps I can find. A broken chain can kill someone. A strap won't. I usually carry 3 straps, a 10' 60k lb, and 2 20' 35k lb straps. I also bring several clevis'.

broncoman6524 8. If you dont feel comfortable hitting a hole or a line...DONT do it. Ignore the bystanders...

they way you said that makes me think you were showing off and and something happened :P

On Board Air - having onboard air on my truck has kept slight mishaps on the trail from becoming all day trip killers... The ability to reseat a bead or refill a tire after a shreaded valvestem has kept the convoy moving where it could have crippled us...

Run with someone who has onboard air, if you don't have it yourself. One of the best (most used, etc) mods I have done by far...

More like i felt uncomfortable hitting that hole. My front end was making funny noises...i gave in hit it. started to pull out of the hole, front u-joint blew, and the splines in the shaft went out completely. Dented hte header... they had been on less than a week...

Ive done that too...haha trying to go into to big of a hole. "yeah ill make it" BAM stuck...haha

Yeah me to........note to self- Don't do that again.:doah:

One more rule that should be added...Expect the unexpected.

If you're on meds make sure you carry a couple day supplies. Also in your first aide kit pack cigs and snuff, because someone will run out and it can get ugly.

i have a really big chain that i use on occasion, but i prefer straps. i saw a smaller chain punch right through a guy's hood. he was pulling in reverse and had the hood open for a shield. damn good thing, too, because it did keep the chain from making it to the windshield.

this can be tricky for trips in general. i bring at least twice what i'll need, and i keep it in separate storage places. that way, if some gets lost/damage you still have at least enough to get by. i usually keep one day's supply on my person, also.

4. plan next trip

So when/where is it?

Good list's so far but I'd also add.
*Bring fluids for your truck*
Brake fluid/power steering fluid/oil/anti freeze etc.

Hey Kurt I heard you have a trailer full of 60 pasts follow you around, just in case.:D
