because their hub is leaking, even after a new seal ... install tip: The stupid piece of metal they give you to install is waaaay too short. Billavista used a handy piece of 3" exhaust handy to use as an install tool, but I didn't have any, nor any 3" PVC pipe, which woulda been my next choice. See

I discovered, however, that a roll of duct tape fits perfectly over, is just still enough to hold the sleeve but soft enough it won't mar it, and can be tapped into place with a rubber mallet very nicely. :woot:

End result is a niiice clean surface. Seeing my inside brake pad was soaked through with gear oil :eek1: I hope this does the trick.

Duct tape: the handy man's secret weapon!

you do know the back lip gets town off once installed as its pre sliced like a food can. or it can rip the new seal.

and installing these sleavs best to use some red locktite on the sleave to spindle.

How the heck do I get it off the axle once it's sliced off, just cut it?

You do know I have an installation tool my buddy made for me for doing speedi sleeves on a 14ff. :deal: Usually, if there's a special tool for doing a job I probably have one.

if its got a pressed in line around the lip area lice a soup can does then . take a pair or shape good side cutters and snip the lip and then roll off the lip.

read the directions with the kit.

and that tin install cup thay give you works perfect for in the toolbox to set your axle hub nut socket in it to keep from getting grease/oil all over. i got a few of them just for this reason. :D

Man, I need a couple of these. Got a part #? Looks like napa carries them.

Yeah, yeah, but I have a roll of duct tape :haha:

And Sweetk30, good tip on the tin cup, glad I didn't cut them up. No matter how much I clean them, yeah, those axle hub sockets just drip goo everywhere.

Here's the hub before. I don't *FEEL* any damage, but there's that line around the center which is prolly right where the seal is supposed to go.

And here's the sleeve installed with the lip torn off:

Finally, I did break down and read the destructions.

Step 6 is vague and wow, that's nearly Engrish, so convoluted ... but in short, I slit one side of the tear-off part with the Dremel cutoff wheel, and then took it off with pliers once installed. In retrospect, I'd cut it in three places, makes it easier to tear.

Time will tell if this stops the leak (yes, I replaced the inner hub seal at the same time, since I was in there.)

Now to do something about the other side's leaky caliper... :doah:

napa has seal and speedie sleave seperate.

or save the hassle and ask them for the seal AND sleave in 1 kit.

After I replaced my hubs, the passenger side is leaking at the spindle. We saw some wear but thought it would be ok enough to try.

We're looking at the speedy sleeves, but I was curious how they have held up. You installed them in Feb. , how are they holding up? Still no leaks?

:doah: 0 miles driven since then -- something about me having tendonitis.

Sorry :(

Resurrecting for a Hijack:

I had a slight leak on my Dana 80 and replaced the wheel seals with these:

.

Now one side leaks really bad. I will have to tear it apart to see if I damaged the seal installing the hub or something. I guess the vent line is suspect because it didn't leak until I drove it (could also be oil temp). So I'm wondering if there's a better kind of seal or if I'm wrong to just drive the new seal in with the old one

I pulled the seal and I'm convinced it's designed for center portion to sit in place on the spindle while the outer part turns with the hub. There is a double lip seal on the inside between the two parts and the center is very hard to slide on and off the spindle. The vent line is also free. Maybe I ruined the seal on installation and you really do need the special tool. It would fit outside the rubber section you see in the pic on that narrow metal edge. The other side isn't leaking, though.
