If you've replaced all the braking system components (calipers, pads, lines, flushed, MC, etc) and still have a problem with your truck pulling when you slam on the brakes, try replacing your drag link and/or tie rod.

I replaced my drag link which took a TON of slack out of the steering, and replacing my tie rod fixed my pulling/wandering under hard braking. As far as I can tell the tie rod was worn out to the point where it would allow one wheel or the other to kick out to the side resulting in unpredictable braking when the weight transferred to the front end.

:waytogo:

Someone posted a video a while ago of an original 88 or 89 Blazer, and from the factory it pulls to the right under braking. It is a fact of life with these trucks and many others. Mine currently has new calipers, pads, drag link, and tie rod, yet it still pulls to the right under hard braking.

Is this the one you're talking about?

And I've wondered -- if one were to convert to crossover steering would that eliminate the pull completely? Is the pull due to the weight transfer compressing the front suspension and thereby changing the geometry of the drag link?

that's a good idea actually, cause they compared the pull to the bronco, the bronco doesn't have the push-pull arm the blazer does. Suspension goes upward, pitman and draglink get closer to steering arm, which means it has to move rearward, turning the tires to the right. hmmm
Maybe, or it might just be a crappy factory prop valve.

Yep that's the video. You know it is something to consider, I know my Dad's old 74 Highboy with the factory crossover style steering didn't seem to pull the way Blazers do.

Yup, suspension geometry changes and effects the steering input angle.

Prop valve biases brakes rear to front not side to side.

right, but the front line goes into it and splits the fronts as well. I can't see it being the reason, just saying it's "touching" the front brake lines lol
it's got to be the draglink

Mine doesn't pull anymore, but the steering wheel does cant to the left when I brake. Better in the steering wheel than in the tires I suppose.

Everything on my truck concerning the brakes is brand new and it pulls to the right. When I put in cross over I assume it will go away.

I explained the problem to a guy, today, in fact, about how it pulls to the right because of the short drag link and with nose dive it accentuates the problem and forces the wheels to turn right. Especially with my axle pushed forward 1.5" and the 5" of lift...

My haynes or chilton book actually talks about this but I can't remember what it said to check. It listed a few things to troubleshoot so that tells me that our trucks shouldn't pull to the right or left when braking. I wonder if good factory manual talks about this issue or not. I want to say that it had something to do with tires not being balanced properly. I honestly don't remember.
