For those that question the strength of a 241 t case

The 208 and 241 are almost identical weight. :deal:
Scott, you know it kills me to agree with you:doah:, but I just weighed my np241 (thinking you were right), and it's 83 lbs with linkage but no shifter. The 205 sitting in the yard in not complete, but it's still over 100 lbs.
Shawn, you got screwed on shipping.:haha:

There comes a point in life that we have to agree on something other than agreeing about not agreeing. :D

First off. The 350 TBI engine is the most powerful SBC ever put in a truck since 1973. Including the SB 400.

I suppose it all depends on your definition of "powerful". I had an '87 TBI. From the day it rolled off the line, "powerful" is not a word I would use to describe it. Low end torque? Yes. About 300 ft/lbs. Fuel economy? I'ld say yes, when it was new. Powerful? Nah. Top end falls off a cliff with those swirl port heads and cam. Yes, there are guys wringing more power out of the LO5, but you're struggling in a world of limited upside.

If you're thinking along the lines of factory SBC power, you might want to look at the L31 SBC GM put in trucks after they retired the L05 TBI. Yes, it came after '91, but bolts into our trucks, unlike an LS motor. They're a great repower option. Also known as the Vortec 5700. The Vortec heads borrowed from some of the advances in head design they made in the LT1 program. 255hp and 330 ft/lbs using CPI, definitely more "powerful" than the L05. Toss on a RamJet manifold and the mild RamJet cam and you're looking at nice flat torque curve putting out around 350hp and 400ft/lbs, if you can tune. Other guys put a carb on it and call it a day.

The RamJet setup, cam and tuneable ECM is doable for under a grand if your starting with a TBI engine bay, you're careful, and shop it. I started with a bare RamJet manifold and built from there.

I even left the LO5 block in there since it had 4-bolt mains. The expensive RamJet crate engine uses a Vortec motor nearly identical to the L31 with 2-bolt mains. I slapped a set of Vortec heads on the L05 and converted it to a roller motor using factory parts after sliding in the RamJet cam. The roller swap is cheap and easy for most LO5s. My heads were shot anyway and the original flat tappet cam was worn down as well. The cam and head swap made sense in my case.

You might end up with a little less compression than a true RamJet depending on which version of the LO5 you start with. But you get 95% of the benefit of a pricey RamJet motor at a fraction of the cost.

I have a 208 on the bench. W/linkage and some oil it is 80 lbs on a bathroom scale.

Shipping weight includes any packaging and many times people just estimate the weight and go high to play it safe.

261 are floor shift cases that came in 99+ 1/2tons, they are slip yoke front and rear output
wow really?? Hmm. He has a 90's model truck on a 70's model frame. Some local guy built it and did a good job. would have never guessed he used a '99 or newer transfer in such an old homemade jobber behind a 5 speed. Thanks :D

guess that explains alot on how much my local napa guy knows :haha:

Mud sux....

watch

wow, i am SURE glad i don't wheel with a group of people that laugh and cheer when ya break something on the trail,,, i dunno, maybe i'm getting old...

Jason4x4, you shuddup :doah: :D:p:

I guess when i said TBI was the most powerful engine in GM trucks I should have specified SFA. I tend to think of IFs as more car like.
Well great. I guess you put me in my place.
I know how to build a TBI/VORTEC engine. Not that impressed with stock Vortec Given the stock TBI and STOCK vortec fuel injection systems> I can pull way more HP and Torque out of TBI fuel injection than CFI on a vortec will ever or can give.
But
Even your mighty GREAT, mighty and all powerful Vortec engines were backed up with a 241.:p:

The group I ride with don't either.Somebody on one of the local boards ask one time why their weren't many pics of that particaular park on the net and somebody replied "because you can't get a pic that doesnt have a beer can in it''.

ya but you dont wheel:confused:

sure i do, you're just never there when i DO, mainly because YOU don't wheel... :D

heck, i still have the broken front axleshaft in my truck to prove it, (which is something else i PM'd you about,, ) and if i recall, no-one laughed and cheered when it happened either ;)

And I have that one with your name in it

if you only knew..

I just bust your chops.. I used to have the worst, absolute worst spelling on here. I started using spell check and noticed I make the same mistakes most of the time. Its night and day and down right sad to look at anything I typed 5 years ago nut I still have a long ways to go...

just give it some effort and add the yahoo tool bar and it will highlight your misspelled words.
