So we went wheelin this weekend...
Alot of water...
And it got me wondering...
Who here runs a elect fan (preferrably the ford windstar fan) and how's it handle the water crossings where it would get wet...???
Do you turn it off?

I bought the stuff to do this conversion.. but now am wondering if i should just use a clutch fan...

Isnt the electric fan gonna have issues runngin in the water... or will it dry out and start back up?

Not windstar fans but I do have twin electrics. Most of the terrain is deep water and mud around here. I had more problems with my stock fan.

I do turn it off if it will get real deep.

I haven't run mine thru any yet, but I'm fully confident they'll be fine. ideal, as a matter of fact.. thats one of their main purposes, to be able to shut em off.. whereas a clutch fan'll take out your rad..

it's always good to use a water displacer on em as soon as you can after they've been submerged.. like when ya get home, but yes, they'll work wet and dry themselves out...

See i thougth, and witnessed, this weekend, that a clutch fan works great when it hits water... it stops spinning... and witnessed a non clutch fan continue to splash water all over the engine bay and possibly suck water up into the motor...

By discplce you mean spray them down with something?

pretty sure clutch fans do it too, not just a solid fan, like a flex fan..

it's usually too violent a stop for the fan when it hits the waterand the blades get sucked into the rad...

electric, ya don't have anything to worry about..

oh, and yeah, i like crc 6-56 for spraying, but wd-40'd work...

Looks like you had a blast:thumb:, cool pics. I need to finish my rig so I can play too.
I will be hitting the wrecking yard as soon as I feel better for a steering box and electric fans. Where did you get your fan?
Thanks,
Dustin

You have to displace the water with wd-40 or something or the bearings will bite the dust like mine did. Other than that it is great. Sometimes if my motor gets hot I shut down and leave the fan on and it cools down really quick.

I would gladly give up my electrics and go back to the clutch fan. It's a little too hot out here for the electric fans IMO.

Kinda wondering how electric fans being run through water is much different than driving in rain for 8 hours? Either way the engine heat is going to dry them pretty quick.
