I put a 78 Ford Dana 60 in my 86 Chevy Shortbox and want to flip the u-bolts so the plate is on top. Passenger side was easy enough but the diff on the driver's side needs some creative thinking. I was wondering if anyone else on here has done this and if so, how? Pics would be a bonus. Thanks for any help.

Iv'e seen it done, but not sure what u-bolt to use. Not sure where I saw it either....

you using that 60 crossover arm????

Wanna get rid of it???

Got thinking aboot it, and I think Willyswanter did the u-bolt flip before he went to Mogs....

oru solid axle swap kit i saw said to grind a round grove in the one lower web to make a spot for the ubolt to sit. then get a ubolt bent to size and good to go.

i can ask my buddy for the directions and scan them and send to you.

why do you want to flip them monte other than beding them on rocks???it gives you MORE clearance to move your axle foward...as soon as you out a spring plate up top then if it 4 or more inches foward (depending on the plates) the draglink will hit...

When I had the GM60 in the front of my truck, there were no issues with the plates hitting the draglink.....

I'd sell it if the price was right. Did you want the 3" block and studs too because they are right there with the arm.

Thanks for the info. That is actually what I did, but it only hits at that one far point and I am thinking with some abuse it will pull out the curve in the U-bolt and loosen up. I guess I am just concerned about the reliability of it.

I flipped them for clearance under the axle. The 52s are moving it as far forward as I'll ever want it and everything seem to work well. It has some spring plates from DIY4X (

im running mine under but im running 44s so clearance isnt that big of a deal

I'm running 44's as well. Clearance is a huge deal. Look at it this way. If your u bolts hang down 2", to get the same additional clearance you'd need a 4" taller tire. Flip the ubolts for the next to nothing comparatively.

On the diff side you won't hang up as often since the pumpkin is right there. The other side is wide open to catch on rocks. Ubolt ends have a way of grabbing a hold pretty good.

I ground a groove.

If you had a pic of how yours turned out that would be good but I imagine it is similar to what I did. Thanks for the spring plates, guardsman, etc.. Also, I gotta tell you your tube doors are my favorites. Hope to get a set of those at some point. I think I just hijacked my own thread. :D

Thanks!

Nothing too fancy with the groove really. Just opened up a spot for the ubolt and called it good. No problems so far. Got pretty nasty on the front axle couple times.

I'll go with it then and check the u-bolts for tightness from time to time.

Do you really need pics? It looks similar to a chevy setup except it has the fourth U-bolt. The notching for that is pretty self explanatory if you line up a u-bolt. All the same, I'll take a pic if you want one.
