ford hi pinion questions...

Isnt it more a DANA centersection, not ford. Just the outers are, the R and P is still Dana, just like it would be in a Dodge or Chevy.

I was thinking about doing it. At one point in time, I had a lead on a GM NP435 transmission, which were only used in 2wds. I was thinking about swapping the stock 35 spline mainshaft out for a Ford 31 and using a Ford NP435 4x4 tailhousing, and then bolting on a Ford NP205. I don't even know if the above is possible, but it sure is interesting.
However, the transmission is no longer available and GM NP435's aren't exactly easy to come across. That and the fact I'd pretty much need a '78-'79 Ford parts truck with a NP435 and a dana 60 front (read: $$) also helped kill the deal in my mind. EDIT: Oh, and the Dodge D60 I got for $150 pretty much helped push me in the "keep it simple" direction.

If you go that route sell me the Ford outer stuff
the tierod being several inches higher then typical chev junk is a plus
why did Dedenbar use the lowest tierod knuckle to copy??

I think MJ was talking to me Steve, and I agree I had no clue why Dedenbear did that, its completely stupid. I am going to do it but however the parts are not for sale unless you want my whole Chevy 60 /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Swapping parts between the 2 and selling my present 60 whole.

60s are $o $pendy down there
if it is cheap lemme know, so far I havent spent more then $1000cdn for a chev one

yeah its not that cheap /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I need the money so got to try and make money on it.

Two reasons. One is that it's stronger, and the 2nd is that the majority of people running his stuff are going to do hi-steer anyway.

stronger then what? the 1990s Dodge version with high tie rod mount? or just the Ford?
as the casting was signifigantly changed for strength by Dedenbar I do not think the tierod location would be a problem
seems like lack of research in that area IMO

I believe they did it to try and centralize the load onto the side of the knuckle that has a bearing. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif just my guess.
