i've got a line on a pair of Ford HP 44s semi-locally. i'm looking into doing an SAS swap on an 88-98 K1500 frame for my 92 (which currently has a bent 2wd frame), so this axle would be perfect for that. one is complete, and the other is said to be "housing and gears". the seller also mentioned flat top knuckles on both of them, which is good for crossover. i've got a buddy with an '89 K1500 that is interested in doing the same. what parts are interchangable with a Chevy D44, or a 10 bolt that we could use to make the incomplete unit complete again?

From the knuckles out, stuff will interchange. And the flattops on there now?? Won't work inless you redrill them to 6 bolt pattern, Ferd is 5 bolt. I found 2 HP44s, one 1/2 ton and one 3/4, but both leaf spring and 32" pad witch. Plus a friend is giving me one. Thinking of putting it in my 97 and then trying to sell it.

b454rat has it right. Spindles and knuckles are 5 stud. We used one under my friends dakota when he SASed it. If you don't mind keeping it mostly ford parts (aside from hubs themselves) then go for it. Sure they aren't AS interchangable as other 44s, but they will work. How much is the guy askin for them?

any problems i would run into bolting the complete one under a Chevy? other than it being "ford parts"?

just the suspension. if you run a ford style coil then nothing is wrong. if you want to run leafs, you will run into a few set backs with the 1/2 ton housing. they have "C's" that the radius arms attach to. you can work around them or take them off. but if the axle is a 78-79 then good luck getting them off and still having an axle. they are cast and hollow with no axle tube going through them. look at the last few pics on this page: http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/Dana44.htm

its a 78/79 leaf axle, and its 3/4 ton, so i should run into no problems then?

no such luck, he's from a well established 4x4 site, and has been there a while. seems to know his stuff.
