Ford Question hazard flashers

1991 Ford Explorer, brake lights, running lights, signals, plate lights, headlights all work, but when I activate the 4 way flashers only the right front works.

Do the hazards and signals use the same wiring? I know they use the same filament in the bulbs. Could this be a bad flasher unit? The book says the fuse controls other things and they all work. So don't think its the fuse.

Seems like a weird problem for it to be the flasher unit?

Thanks for any ideas.

They use pretty much the same wiring.
However all the turn signals and flashers go through the turn signal, brake light switch and emergency flasher switch.
Actually thats not completly true. Only the rear blinkers and brake lights go through the brake switch.
That is, unless its new than I think. It does use the same filiment for brake lights and turn signals, right? The newer ones use different bulbs.
If yours is the older type, and I think it is, then suspect the flasher switch. They almost never get used, and dirt builds up. Try switching it back and forth fairly fast, and then press it up and down and wiggle it while it is in flash.
Usually that will clear it up.
It does use a different flasher module for emergency flashers and turn signals. But if one light works, then they all should.
Note, if you do have the older ones, they will stop flashing and stay on steady if you hit the brakes when the flasher is on.

sounds like bad multifunction switch changed a million of them for the same problem when i worked for ford

I had the same issue recently with my Ford car and the flasher fixed the problem.
