So the power steering pump on my 91 turd exploder was leaking like crazy. I had already replaced the lines so it wasn't coming from there. I found it was spitting fluid out the front near the shaft.
So I hit auto zone for the loan a tool of the puller, then bought the remanned pump somewhere else. Taking off no problem. You have to take the pulley off to get the unit out and the new unit doesn't come with a pulley so you have to put the pulley back on the new unit. You have about 3 inches to work with in front of the unit and unless you want to dismantle the brackets and pull all off the engine you have to put the pulley on while the new unit is bolted in place.
So you screw the bolt into the center of the shaft and tighten it and there is a nut with a metal spacer they call a bearing that goes up against the surface of the pulley and you are supposed to hold the bolt with a wrench and tighten the nut and that will push the pulley on. HMMMMM Yeah
The pulley turns with the nut which loosens the bolt. Ohh this is nice. After turning on extremely tight several times the same thing happens each time. Failed when trying to hold the pulley with vice grips, hands and anything else I could think of.
So I have the pulley 1/2 on. Great. Now the first threads are a bit mangled, so I take the bolt out grind some damaged threads off and screw it back in, same thing again.
Finally I decide I will put the belt on how it is and between the belt tension, holding the pulley with one hand, wedging a wrench on the top of the main bolt against the frame and turning the nut with a wrench in the other hand I finally got it.
