yah, I know 17 too well, was riding in my friends new bmw
a few years back hit that wall coming downhill on the northbound side (the one everyone hits) totaled the car
that wasn't a fun day.....
I'm glad I don't drive that highway every day now

That corner is called Valley Suprise. Everynow and then some locals would accually paint valley suprise on that center devider. How they did it I don't know but I would emagin it would have to be in the middle of the night or something. I was told it got that nick name cuz allot of folks comming from SJose and the 'Valley' would not know how sharp that corner is and WIPEOUT!!
