What would cause a starter to work when the truck is cold , but when the truck is warmed up it only makes noise but will not turn engine over until it cools down again?

This is on a 302 with stock manifolds (no headers)

My guess is the starter is pooched but I was just wondering if there was anything else that could be causing this??

Thanks for any info

New starter time. That is a pretty typical failure for ford starters. Just get a new one. 302 starters are pretty cheap.
