Ford\'s Concept Bronco

Not a full sized truck but it is an idea.

For a more open-air ride, the Bronco concept's roof is made up of two separate sections, the rear portion of which can be removed. Roll bar accents can then be attached for a look that recalls a Baja racer or the customized "Baja Broncos" Ford offered in the 1970s.

Powered by a 2liter turbo Diesel

delivers 128 horsepower and a peak torque of 244 foot-pounds. Using Ford's overboost function generates an even higher torque of 258 foot-pounds for a limited time under full throttle.

Re: Ford\'s Concept Bronco

engine sounds cool. looks kind of like a early bronco and a newer range rover.

Re: Ford\'s Concept Bronco

That's pretty cool...but I'll bet it's IFS and IRS /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Re: Ford\'s Concept Bronco

If You read the artical it states that it is has front wheel drive and when traction is lost power is deverted to the rear wheels /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif Sounds like a Ford Escape to Me /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Looking at the under side of it as tRusty stated it apears to have both front and rear ifs /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif again like the Escape /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
So I would say it's nothing more than a reskined Escape that should really please the die hard blue ovel boys /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
This is all the more reason I hope like hell that Chevy never brings back the K5 or Blazer name cause it would probably just as big an abortion as Ford would make in building this so called "Bronco" /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

That boxy Honda has got to be one of the UGLIEST vehicles on the road

Re: Ford\'s Concept Bronco

Looks neat in a bizarro, Blade Runner way. But it is probably just an Escape by another name. IFS, IRS - what a lame way to reintroduce an old name.

I saw this one in a copy of Bronco Driver Magazine from late '03. It's obviously just a photochop concept, but Ford could make this happen w/ their partnership with Land Rover using the D90 platform.

Also, let's not forget the publicity or popularity of Jeep's Rubicon. I'm sure other US manufacturer's would love to take a chunk of the new 4wd market Jeep currently dominates.

I'd personally love to see either of these concepts built, but only if they have live front/rear axles and 2-speed t-case and at least a V-8 option. But, then again I did get the first taste of 4-wheeling in a '76 Bronco I bought when I was 15.

Realistically, with all the roll-over tests and negative publicity Ford received from that a few years back, I don't believe a new "small" Bronco is likely to happen. And even if it did, it'd probably end up only being a watered down version to appeal to a wider market.
