My buddy brings over his 05 explorer with what he thinks is a blown outer hub assembly. He leaves the truck with me and I have a looksie this morning. I pull the wheels off to have a look(doing brakes anyways). I'm pretty sure this went from a $285 hub to a $3000 front diff job. Huge amount of slop when twisting the front driveshaft, not to mention the grinding/vibration when driving said car.:eek1:
This could happen to any make, but Furds just seem to make my life difficult.

How much and what kind of slop are you talking about in the front diff (in/out, side/side, rotational)?

And how is replacing ring/pinion/bearings a $3000 job? I've done several IFS diffs and they are a pain but that is a ridiculous estimate.

And the point of this thread is to mock Ford I guess? No Chevy IFS diff has ever given up the ghost?

Sounds like a deal considering the guy who I bought my last Dodge/Cummins truck paid a shop $5K to have the front diff R&R on his 96 2500

just go buy a low mileage complete front diff from a Auto Recycler.....its easy....

where do you think i get the upper a-arms and ball joints for Chevy HD trucks when i do them.....60 bucks a piece for the arm with a ball joint that has like 3 PLANT miles on it......

what year is it and how many miles? there were recalls on the exploder front diffs a few years ago. they had the wrong friction modifier (?) in the lube and it was eating them up. we had a bunch at work that had to have the whole front diff replaced because the department was slow in getting them in to the dealership
