i went to a junk yard today and found a 14bff rear in a 1 ton chevy with a utillity box on the back instead of a bed. its a 2wd truck. i measured the springs center to center and it was 40". brake drum to drum was around 53" my 1/2 ton springs are 42.5 center to center, 55.5 drum to drum. i know i will have to move the spring plates. are the brake drums that much bigger on the 14b?

Some are. The backing plate location varies with the rear shoe thickness. The wider the shoes, the closer the backing plates are together. The WMS doesn't change.

its a srw axle. the front end looked like a pickup, but the back was a tool box, not box truck. the utillity box looked to be about the same with as the cab. it looks like its a early 80's truck. he wants $150 for it.

It will be the same, or close enough wms to wms. Do you know what gear it has in it? I'd try to find a axle that already has the right gear ratio, unless your going to swap it out for something low, like 4.56-5.13's.

Not a bad price either.

If it has the ratio you want, get it. If it doesn't, you can find what you're looking for for the same price or maybe a little more.

You're looking at around $300-$400 in parts to swap a gearset (to do it right).

i am doing a swap. i still have to find a d60 front. it was eithor this or he had a 3/4 set with a 14 bolt semi float for $250

what gear ratio are you looking for? i have a 14ff w/ 4.56 and detriot w/ the perches already moved for your truck, and a matching dana 60 w/ ord crossover (steering arm, draglink), that i am lookin to get rid of.....lemme know

i just paid 1300 for the axles and 460somthing for the x-over, but ill take 1300 for both axles and all the steering stuff (pitman arm and box if you need it too)

Depending on tire size, you could run the 3/4 ton set, then sell the 14bsf and buy a 14bff, then save up for a d60, Just a thought. $250 isn't bad at all for a set of 8 lug axles.

i am going to be running 38.5x15 boggers. i drive with a heavy foot too. i thought about buying the 3 axles, but i already have a 1/2 ton set i have to get rid of.

Scrap yards are giving about $100 per ton for heavy iron and steel. :D

hey man I'm looking for a 60/14 ff. I live just out side of Dallas. What truck are the axles already set up for? Shoot me back some info because I'm really intrested.

Thanks

sorry it took me so long to reply, ive been workin alot...the axles are set up for any half ton or 3/4 ton frame....if you want them under a one ton frame then youll have to move the perches again...i already had them moved for my 3/4 ton...also the shock mounts on the 14ff are moved to the top of the axle so you can run your shocks like a dodge. they both have 4.56 gears and the rear has a detriot locker, also all my x-over is goin too...if your REALLLY interested, i will try to come up w/ some pictures...just lemme know.

ok i will try to get some pics up on suday, i will be at work for 24 hours on saturday, and i am at work for 24 hours today...so suday i should have them.

Are they in running shape, not rusted, or any problems? If they dont have any problems I am willing to drive down somtime this week. Let me know
