It's a '92 6.5 4x4. The guy "bought" it from a friend, repaired it, and the "owner" split, presumably with the title.

Current owner is very nice to deal with, and seems honest about the situation.

The current seller has some info, as he said that the bank is owed $600, so my kwestion is...

What does Az/Bank do with the title? Does the owner keep it, with a note on da bottom saying "lien held by..."?

Can the bank get a new one if I pay the lien?

Interestingly, NY doesn't care 'bout any lienholders. If one has a lien on the title, it's just for the consumers info.

If you don't have the title how do you know who has the lein? The lein holder would hold the title. You can get the title by doing what we do out here, Utah has a process that towers use to get titles on towed cars AZ I'm sure has the same process and I would guess every state has the same deal.

Apply for an abandoned title first . Then when they find the lien they will tell you what you need to do , and who the lien holder is .

the lein holder holds the title in AZ, until it is paid. Sorry, I was busy yesterday.

Called Az DMV, and spoke with a very helpful woman after 1 minute of hold. Kewl!

Anyhow, one has ta do a 39 month ownership history search. Present vehicle at any DMV office for an "appraisal". Send a letter by return receipt to last owners addy. Buy a bond for 10% of 1.5x the "value" at any insurance co, and after 3 years get the bond back, and a transferable title.

KBB, Kelley Blue Book says $2700. $2600 for 454. Diesel valued at $100 more? Sure...

I may buy it, ship it here, and do a similar procedure. but no bond, just last owner letter... I'll call local DMV...

in arkansas any vehicle 10 yrs or older, you can buy w/o title...bill of sale to dmv...tell em title was lost and they reissue title to holder of bill of sale!

ny has mechanics lean papers for shop owners stuck like this. it alows them to get a legal title.

and ny will want you to do a pencial tracing of the vin tag ( good luck on that tigh dash ) and a few forms plus lots of money and 4-6 weeks for title if thay can get one. and title fee is crazy these days.

Spoke with the big boss at local NY DMV. Bcause it's an older POS, no "pre-bond" is neccesary. A letter needs to be sent, which needs ta be returned undeliverable.

Then you file a notarized letter how ya found the POS, and Albany makes a decision. Stupid and simple. And the lien doesn't have ta be paid off 'cause Albany doesn't check.

No vehicle inspection is required, as in Az. Pix of VIN adequate

Tho I WILL pay the lien 'cause one day it may come back ta haunt me... CarFax... Etc...

Leap a faith ta buy it and ship it east, but my guy in high place is very confident.
