Trying to find the right belt to fit the alternator so it spins without flop. Someone recommended a green belt. Drove it foe awhile with it not spinning right and when I parked the engine coolant bubbled out of the tank like it was boiling.

If it was believed to be an 88 when the water pump was replaced it could possibly have the wrong water pump.
Need to know how many belts and type of belt

Is it a V-belt setup like this?

Or a full serpentine like this?

From 86-88 (or so) there was a hybrid setup with both kinds of belts. The water pump spins in opposite directions depending on which side of the belt is riding on it, so you have to have the right pump for the application.

The "hybrid" setup is really just the normal v-belt setup. The only difference is the alternator belt is a ribbed belt, instead of the normal V belt. All the brackets and everything are the same.

Well, except the alternator upper bracket that was for use with the cs130 alternator.
