I have a vortec style setup with the compressor on the driver's side. The brackets are cast iron so I'm worried about the shipping costs though.

which one? Maybe I'm blind but I don't see one without a compressor....
Definitely a good option, probably cheaper and easier than the Vortec style. I personally prefer the 94-95 TBI 454 style brackets but they super hard to find used, have to buy new ones from GM Perforamance.
Use a bypass pulley in the spot where the compressor would bolt like a 34152 from dorman.

mine will not be getting a bypass pulley . . . . it will be getting a diy4x York mount for my York 210 serp clutch compressor.

Yeah I've looked into the kwik setup but then I'm still stuck going to a junk yard for Sbc stuff. Still an option I guess
way cheeper if you ask me .
heck post a wanted ad here for a sbc serp setup . . .
i am forced to post wanted ad's now since my rust belt area i live in has all but rotted these old girls away . last few that hit the local yard had scrap on the fenders . . . didnt even hit the pull yard .

right on. appreciate the advice.
Agreed. I bought my SBC (4.3 actually) serp brackets at a u pull it for $15 ea. You're going to have to buy the alt, p/s, etc anyway so that's a break even. The stuff that I spent a lot on was the adapter kit and crank pulley.
So a SBC set up will work on a BBC...I have my passenger side dual altinater off the 4.3 I need to put on my 383
yes with the kwik bracket adaptors . and he has spacer adaptor for sbc crank pulley on the bbc balencer

I have set from an 85 454. Dual smog pump California brackets. Can post pictures if needed.

Thanks but I think I'm good. Decided to just go with the kwik bracket setup and a newer belt setup off a 90's model 5.7l
