Frame chsnge year?

I'm in need of a new frame. I think the frames changed in the early 80's but am not sure what year. I have an 87 shortbox.

The big change was '81 with the significant difference being the front frame horns where the bumper mounts. I'm not aware of any other differences from '81 on for the swb pick ups.

There are a couple more differences to consider. 1) The rear cab mount surface is higher on a '81up truck. This can be remedied by either spacing the newer mounts on an older frame, or by using the '80 and older mounts. 2) On 81up trucks, the hole for the body mount is bigger. You can hog the older frame out to accept the newer mount, but it is not fun. Voice of experience.

Easiest thing to do if you are going to put a '81up body on a '80 and older frame would be to use the '80 and older mounts.
