Yikes,I had no idea CA roads were as bad as some here are!..
My late friend Randy had a '87 K2500 that cracked the frame on the passenger side ,a vertical split from the upper shock mount area to the top of the rail...truck was a pristine rust free rig too,that supposedly came from the south,and he paid a lot more than I felt any square body was worth at the time (around 1991)...
His cousin arc welded up up after drilling a stop hole,and once I saw that truck had cracks there,I began looking at others I came across and saw a few that had the same thing going on in that area..
I think the frame rails were case hardened or something,they seem to crack rather than flex or bend in certain stressed areas..the steering box torquing the rail sideways and road impacts combined could crack the drivers side easier I suppose..
