My frame cracked in the usual manner around the gearbox before I got the truck, and had the repair welded in, but now it seems they are both cracked and my gearbox is now loose as all get out. Anyone got an SOP on fixing it up right this time?

grind off the weld on patch kit. Fix the frame cracks correctly, and weld on a new patch kit. Replace old bolts with new grade 8 hardware.
You can add in a bolt on brace also to help triangulate it more but if the frame is fixed correctly and a new patch is done well you shouldn't need it.
