I bought a 79 350sb K5 as a donor for my 90 K5 diesel, and got to thinking I could build off of the 79's frame and still be able to play with the 90 till its time to put on the body. How big a difference between the frames on a 79 and a 90? It would be great to take my time and do detailed work and still enjoy my toy....Dave

as far as i can tell the frame rails are the same the difference is the rear cab mounting point and the rear floor front mounting point. going to swap a 75 frame to a 90 body here shortly.look in the lmc truck catalog to see the cab mount differnces.

A '79 frame will have all the same body mounting points and floor pan, it's the '77 and earlier that are different. The '80 and earlier frames are slightly different in the front, but it's in non-important areas. The big difference is the ends of the rails where the bumpers mount.
