In my shop. Doing stuff.
I'm looking at finding a frame for Fugly.

The one under it was shortened a long time ago. It is strong but is really butchered.

Since I plan to link, bag and spindle the truck, I figure starting with another frame and getting ready, then doing the swap would be smart. This way I can drive the truck while preparing the frame.

My question is, on the C30 1973 through the 80's, are they the same? I can't seem to find good info. Might just be my lack of patience.

Im by far an expert, but only thing I've heard was the front where core support mounts. I've never done the swap, but something bout swapping an 80s clip on a 70s frame. Or was it just the hood hinges.....last square i had was almost 20 years ago....

Yeah, front suspension is the same, your frame should be relatively flat. I believe most motorhomes of that era would be the same. There is a ton of free motorhomes out there if you have the resources to demo the body. @ Zoomad might be able to narrow it down but I think 73- early 90s would be the same.

There's a guy I watch on YouTube. Hardcore Fab. He's putting a C50 cab on a motor home chassis. His had a one ton a-arm style front end and from the trans back was different. I'd bet yours is like them.

Would it be easier to fix/backhalf the frame that's under it and not have to take it all the way apart and swap it all over?

Rear cab mount and front frame horns were different when the front clip changed. After the cab, they were different depending on if they were sold with a truck bed, a service body, or bare. I used to cut these up for parts a lot because no one wanted them and I'd get most of my money back on scrap alone.

My Grandpa (was a foreman at Flint truck and bus in the 70s and 80s) said there were tons of rando production runs with different frames for different upfitters also.

I remember an anomaly with coil buckets, but for the life of me I can't remember what was special about them.
