i beleive the distance between the frame rails is slightly wider on the 73-80 frames around the front bumper mount area. When mounting a meyer 8 foot plow on my 79, the only mount they had avaliable at the time fit the 81-87. i had to make a couple of plates (maybe 1/4" or something) to make up the difference but it wasn't that big of a deal.

front frame horns are diffrent. but slight mods will go eather way.
Like sweetk30 says.......the front frame horns are different.
The '73 to '80 has a more rounder horn and the '81-'91 has an angle horn. Both have mounting holes in different locations than the other.
