got a buddy who has a 1/2 Chevy pick up that need a new frame installed. He asked me this question about the different years these trucks were made,From78-to 87 are the frames all the same for a 4x4 and do the shortbeds have a shorter frame than the longbeds ?????never delt with these so any thanks for any advice......

believe the frames are the same through those years. longbeds have a longer frame. 3/4 and 1 ton have thicker frames

dont think military k5s have thicker frames....i thought only 1tons had the thicker frames, and 1/2 and 3/4 tons had the same...

i'm sure my 3/4 ton has a frame that's thicker than 1/2 tons i think i even read that on ORD when i was ordering my steering box brace.

the frames any exactly the same from 78-87, from 73 to 80 the ends were formed to bolt to the bumpers, in 81 they started using brackets that bolted to the frame and then to the bumper. also sometime in the early 80s the rear cab mount changed from a bracket (like the front cab mount) to a crossmember. my buddies 81 has the brackets and both my 83s have a crossmember. i believe the frames are the same shape and should swap with no problem.
a long bed frame is longer than a shortbed frame.

with the thicker frame, not all 3/4 ton frames are thicker. i have a 83 k10 and a 83 k20 and they have the same exact frame. most of the other k20 frames ive seen are thicker, but mine isn't. so just because its a k20 frame doesn't mean its any thicker than a half ton frame.

the 3/4tons with 56" springs prolly are the ones with the thicker frames, 52" springs are the thinner frames. im jus guessin :o
